:: Cinco de Mayo Roses

To the boyfriend and I, Cinco de Mayo is usually a good reason to eat some Mexican food and knock back a few margaritas. This year though, I actually have a little more Cinco de Mayo influence in my life.

These are my Cinco de Mayo Roses. I bought a little rose tree last year at Lowe's on clearance for $8! I didn't realize until I got home that it was named after Cinco de Mayo. It has done really well since I planted it, and was totally worth the 8 bucks.

Here are some of the pretty blooms just for you! They range in shade from a hot pink to a deep magenta/red color. Plus, they smell amazing! I would love to try and grow other kinds of roses. Maybe a climbing rose on a pretty trellis?

Do you guys have any tips or favorites that you recommend? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I planted a Cinco de Mayo rose in my garden this year! Though I didn't get mine that cheap - mine was $25! I *did* find Knock Out roses at my local Lowes on the 'distressed' rack for $6.50 each. KO roses are crazy easy to grow, though I've read a lot of gardeners that dislike them because the blooms aren't as big and they don't have the fragrance that traditional roses have (though I read the yellow ones *do* smell nice so I'm keeping my eye out for a yellow one to add to my yard).

Did you know that roses are edible? If you add more to your garden you can pick the petals and make jelly with them, candy the petals and put on a cake, throw them in salads, etc.
